This somatic journey is a creative process, which impels me to transmute
my actions more and more into inner awareness and creative evolution.

I came across the technique, you might say fell upon it when I compounded an already chronic back problem. I slipped and landed on the base of my spine, ouch. The osteopath I was seeing suggested some exercises as a complement to his maneuvers. The exercises were from the book "Somatics" by Thomas Hanna, Ph.D.(Perseus Books, ISBN 0-201-07979-8), founder of the field of Somatics and of the Novato Institute for Somatic Research and training. In 1975, he directed the first Feldenkrais training in the U.S.A.
I had been drawn to the Feldenkrais method and had attended classes for several years. What Hanna developed on the foundation laid down by Feldenkrais proved to be what I had been searching for many a year. In my teens, I was personal assistant to Vidal Sassoon. His Hatha Yoga practice influenced the way one was taught to use the body while working. Yet, at the age of 27, the accumulation of stress and repetitive motion strain - fixation had me on the floor in shocked agony, my first back spasm. I was given pain killers to fix my so called lumbago (lower back syndrome). "But isn’t that an old person thing?", I inquired. Thereafter, my search to alleviate my body’s dysfunction, lead me on the path of yoga, meditation and many forms of body therapy. To me, this is a Western Yoga unifying mind, brain, nerve, muscle, a meditation in motion, supporting balance, strength, flexibility and comfort.

I teach and coach somatic principles in a simple form that can be understood by the lay person and well suited for the professional. Whether choosing sessions that are INDIVIDUAL - an interactive personalized program, SEMI-PRIVATE - great for partners, GROUP - yoga class format, one receives clarifying insight into one's particular muscular configuration. I also offer custom programs for the work place environment and for meditation retreats. Remember, even Buddha's get bad backs!
I have worked with practitioners of yoga and bodywork, who after experiencing somatic principle movement - "SomaMotions", have incorporated it into their practice with clients.

A special thank you to all my teachers -
To my son, Geet Jacobs at Geet Design, creator of this website, and an inspiration to me.
